Local Participants Win Trip to Israel at JNF Golf Tournament

Over 100 people teed up at Sherwood Country Club this past Monday for a chance to win a trip to Israel in Jewish National Fund’s (JNF) first regional qualifying event of the brand new Herzl Tour: The International Golf Tour of JNF. The top two finishing pairs were guaranteed a trip to Israel to compete against other regional qualifiers from around the U.S. in the first-ever EL AL Cup at the Caesarea Golf Course. Richard London and Lloyd Sherman, and Marty Singer and Kevin King tied at 13 under par to secure playing spots for the EL AL Cup.

“We had an absolutely amazing turn out and a spectacular day at Sherwood Country Club,” said JNF Los Angeles Executive Director Allison Krumholz. “Not only did participants enjoy a world class golf course, they also had opportunities to win great prizes donated by a host of sponsors.  The event was a tremendous success and was unique to anything we have done in the past.”

This was the 23rd year in a row that JNF in Los Angeles has held a golf tournament to benefit JNF’s work in Israel, but it is the first time a trip to Israel has been the top prize. The format was also changed from previous years to offer a two man, best ball tournament with handicaps factored in to give all teams an equal chance. This was also the first time the LA event was held at Sherwood Country Club, one of the area’s premier courses that is home to the Tiger Woods World Challenge.

“I am extremely lucky to have won this amazing opportunity to go and play golf in Israel at the EL AL Cup,” said Richard London, one of the tournament winners. “My playing partner Lloyd Sherman and I can hardly wait. The Los Angeles tournament was fantastic and it benefited a great organization in JNF.”

The Los Angeles tournament raised over $150,000 dollars. All money raised will benefit the construction of the Amphitheater at the Be’er Sheva River Park in Israel’s Negev Desert. The 12,000-seat amphitheater is part of JNF’s Blueprint Negev initiative designed to revitalize Israel’s southern region.

The Herzl Tour: The International Golf Tour of JNF continues with regional qualifying tournaments in Chicago on June 10, New York/New Jersey on June 17, and San Diego at the Del Mar Country Club on August 12. Please enjoy pictures from this fantastic event and be sure to check back to find out more about next years tournament.

Thank you to the sponsors of the 2013 Herzl Tour Golf Tournament at Sherwood Country Club.
