Celebrate the New Year of Trees with JNF’s Annual Tu BiShvat Community Event
In the spirit of its successful Walk for Water programs, Jewish National Fund (JNF) invites you to join us at our complimentary Tu BiShvat Community Celebration on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at the Albany Marriott (189 Wolf Road, Albany, NY 12205). Tu BiShvat is a festival of renewal, a celebration of nature, and a holiday of the environment. It is also a holiday that marks the New Year for Trees. This unique family event begins at 9:30 AM, with programs running through 11:30.
The morning’s programming is designed for every age group to come and learn about the work JNF is doing to better the lives of those who live in the land of Israel. There will be a Tu BiShvat Seder, Israeli trivia, JNF Blue Box Drop Offs, and an opportunity to learn about JNF’s work in Israel. All students in attendance will receive a complimentary t-shirt.
“Tu BiShvat is JNF’s holiday and we are so excited to share it with the Capital Region,” said JNF Director of New England & the Capital Region Sara Hefez. “We are looking forward to seeing new faces and old friends. There is so much to learn and experience about JNF’s work in Israel and I invite you to bring your families to spend the day with us!”
Concurrent with the student activities, attendees are invited to meet Avnet Kleiner, director of development for Aleh Negev-Nahalat Eran, a state-of-the-art rehabilitative village in Southern Israel that maximizes the potential of those with disabilities. Kleiner will share how JNF is not only an innovator in serving people with special needs, but is also a leader in the areas of ecological development, afforestation, water management and conservation, technology, and environmental innovation. Additionally, Kleiner will provide an update of the progress in reforesting Mount Carmel since the devastating 2010 fire.

JEWISH NATIONAL FUND (JNF) began in 1901 as a dream and vision to reestablish a homeland in Israel for the Jewish people everywhere. Jews the world over collected coins in iconic JNF Blue Boxes, purchasing land and planting trees until ultimately, their dream of a Jewish homeland was realized. Today, JNF continues to give all generations a unique voice in building and ensuring the prosperity of the land of Israel through their generosity and partnership with the people of Israel.
JNF’s bold vision, as set out in its $1 Billion Roadmap for the Next Decade -- a ground-breaking plan for Israel’s future -- encompasses building new communities in the Negev and Galilee, expanding the scope of river rehabilitation and water research, exploring energy production, creating opportunities for people with special needs, heritage preservation, bringing thousands of people to Israel every year on missions and trips, and growing future leadership in our youth community through Zionist education and advocacy programs.
A registered 501(c)(3) organization, JNF is recognized as a 4- star organization by Charity Navigator. For more information, call 800.JNF.0099 or visit jnf.org.
