RI resident Michael Lederman recently returned from the adventure of a lifetime: a 400-mile bike ride through Israel. He joined fellow JNF Board of Directors members Larry Cohen and David Eisenberg on Team JNF for the Arava Institute and Hazon Israel Ride, a thrilling five-day ride from the Galilee to Eilat.
Riders commit to raise at least $3,600 in personal sponsorships and the 2012 ride raised over $275,000. Larry who currently serves as JNF New England Zone President, Mike, JNF National Treasurer and Rhode Island Board President, and David, Team JNF Captain, and Vice Chair of the Israel Ride, were among the top 10 fundraisers.
For the past eight years, JNF has proudly sponsored the Israel Ride, a unique experience that fuses an athletic journey with environmental awareness and regional cooperation. Riders are given the opportunity to engage with nature as they learn about the historical and geographical significance of the regions they ride through.
David shared, “Having Mike join us for this year’s ride was wonderful. He brings a unmatchable passion and energy to all that he does. I invite riders to join us for 2013 and beyond. All levels of bike proficiency are welcomed – we are truly a ride for all levels!”
The Arava Institute for Environmental Studies, a JNF partner, is a world-class teaching and research center that offers a unique approach to studying the environmental challenges of the Middle East. The school’s Jordanian, Palestinian, and Israeli students explore a range of environmental issues from a trans-boundary and interdisciplinary perspective while learning peace-building and leadership skills.
Mike shared, “Israel is the beating heart of the Jewish people worldwide. JNF’s work in Israel nourishes our brethren and strengthens all that is good in the world.”
