Jewish National Fund (JNF) is proud to announce that Robert E. Ganz of Albany, NY has been elected President of its Capital District Board of Directors. Effective October 1, 2014, Ganz will succeed Kenneth Segel.
“Rob has been an active Board member for three years and I am delighted that he is taking on this new position,” shared Sara Hefez, JNF New England and Capital District Director. “His passion is truly inspiring and we are excited to grow JNF to the next level. Rob has new and creative ideas to continue the cultivation and growth that Ken worked so hard on creating.”
Segel founded the Capital District Board and for almost a decade has been one of JNF’s most devoted supporters nationally. He has traveled the country under his current role as National Major Gifts Chair, and raised much-needed contributions for JNF’s work in Israel. He has led numerous missions, attended JNF’s National Conferences and Board of Directors meetings, and was named “Campaign All Star” in JNF’s magazine, B’Yachad.
Ganz looks forward to taking on the role of Capital District President.
“My goal is to broaden the base of people in the Capital Region who understand and appreciate the scope and depth of JNF’s work,” shared Ganz. “JNF creates and maintains an infrastructure in Israel that is both sustainable and a driver of economic growth. I believe when people understand this critical role in Israel’s development, they will be increasingly supportive in providing the funds to help JNF move forward for the people of Israel.”
Ganz is a founding member of Ganz Wolkenbreit and Siegfeld LLP, a business law firm headquartered in Albany, NY and serving clients throughout Northeastern New York and New York City. He has practiced in the areas of commercial litigation, employment, collections, business transactions and commercial real estate for the past 40 years. He is most proud that every member of the firm is actively engaged in philanthropic and community work. “It is critical to the environment of our culture and practice,” he said.
Ganz has travelled to Israel numerous times with his wife, Dorothy, who has been active in Hadassah for 30 years and currently serves on their national board. In 2012, after getting involved in JNF through the Annual Walk for Water 5K in Albany, Ganz went on Hadassah’s 100th anniversary trip to Israel. When the trip concluded, they stayed to visit JNF projects and experience first-hand, the importance of JNF’s work and the impact it has on Israelis.
In addition to his involvement with JNF, Ganz has served as President of Guilderland Public Library and President of Congregation Ohav Shalom, as well as on a variety of community boards including Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home Foundation and Northeast Association of the Blind.
