JNF's Work in Israel, Positively Israel

Ellen P. Rosenberg has been a practicing attorney in Southern California, Washington, D.C. and Maryland for over three decades. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of California at Berkeley and received her J.D., cum laude from the Washington College of Law, American University, in Washington, D.C, where she was awarded a Dean's Fellowship and served on the Law Review. She litigated for the United States Department of Energy, receiving a Commendation Award from the Department recognizing her achievement in winning the largest litigation award to that date in United States history, before entering private practice. In May of 2003, Ms. Rosenberg was recognized by Vogue Magazine as a Top Lawyer for Women in Maryland.
Ms. Rosenberg actively pursues her love and commitment to the State of Israel through service on the Jewish National Fund where she sits on both the National Board and the Mid Atlantic Executive Board. On the National Board, Ms. Rosenberg serves as Assistant Vice President of the Legal Committee. On the Mid Atlantic Board, she chairs Major Gifts. She is the Chair of Makor, a specially trained cadre of highly involved JNF volunteers, commencing September 2014. Ms. Rosenberg also chaired JNF's 60th Anniversary Mission to Israel for her Region and is co-chairing the Spirit of the Israel Fall 2014 Mission. Ms. Rosenberg fulfills her commitment to the local Jewish community through acting as a "Big Sister" as part of the Jewish Big Brothers and Big Sisters League of Baltimore, having had a "Little Sister" for five years. She has also served on the Jewish Big Brothers and Big Sisters League of Baltimore's Board of Directors from 2005- 2012 and the Jewish Volunteer Services' Board of Directors.
Ellen has two fabulous children, who have two wonderful spouses. She lives with her husband, Cary and their two yorkies and a sweet shelter love mutt. In her free time she loves the outdoors; she runs, she has completed several Nike Women’s half marathons, and Avon 36 mile walks for breast cancer, swims, hikes and plays with the pups.

Makor (Hebrew for “source”) is a specially-trained cadre of highly-involved Jewish National Fund volunteers. Our primary role is to support the core functions of JNF by direct fundraising. Thus, we identify prospective donors, conduct direct solicitations in our own communities and around the United States and assist in educating the public about the JNF and its projects.

Makor also serves as a source for lay leadership. We are leaders in our own communities, and provide training and inspiration for other community leaders on solicitation techniques, board development and outreach and on the work of the JNF. Makor members also assume JNF leadership positions on a national level.

We are proud leaders who are committed to the mission of the JNF, the caretaker of the land of Israel forever. In addition, Makor is a source of innovation within the JNF. Our diverse backgrounds, coupled with our common commitment, foster a free-flow of ideas to keep JNF as relevant and productive as possible.

Makor members travel to Israel each year to study JNF projects and programs in depth, and bring their insights and experiences to you. Members speak at no charge.
