Chet Stein is a Periodontist in Washington, D.C. He received his Bachelor of Science in Physiology from Cornell University and then went on to obtain his dental degree from Howard University. After graduation Dr. Stein served in the United States Public Health Service, completing an Internship in General Dentistry at the USPHS Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He then served in the United Stated Coast Guard as a dentist. After leaving the Public Health Service, he completed his post doctoral training in Periodontology at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
Chet is an active member of multiple dental organizations. He has been President of the Maimonides Dental Society and the Metropolitan D.C. Society of Periodontics.
Dr. Stein has also been actively committed to his community. He has served on the Board of the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, Hillel of Greater Washington, Partner of Jewish Life and Learning and the Treatment and Learning Centers of Montgomery and Frederick Counties. He also has served as the Dental Divison Chair for the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.
In addition to his current involvement as a member of the D.C. JNF Advisory Board, he also is a Board member of the Friends of the Arava Institute. He also presently serves on the Boards of B'nai Israel Congregation, a 1300 family congregation and the Board of the Hebrew Free Burial Society.
Dr, Stein has been to Israel on many occasions. He has been able to combine his love of Israel, the environment and bird photography through JNF. He has been the Chairman of the JNF Bird Watching and Nature Photography Mission in both 2010 and 2011. A similar Mission for 2013 is in its exploratory phase.
He and his wife Rita have been married for 39 years. She shares his love of Israel and the environment. Rita is a member of the Sapphire Society. Their son, Jonathan, is an environmental attorney. He had the opportunity to study at the Arava Institute, a JNF partner, during his college years.
