JNF's Work in Israel, Positively Israel
Mark lives in Morristown, New Jersey with his wife Lenore. He is an attorney and has practiced with Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti LLP since 1981, focusing on representing lenders in all types of commercial finance transactions. He is a graduate of Northeastern University and Syracuse University College of Law.
While Mark has long been active in his local Jewish community as treasurer of his synagogue and a supporter of UJA/MetroWest, he has been involved with JNF since 2007. The connection was sparked by an unlikely event – professional baseball in Israel. Both of Mark’s sons, David and Eric, were participants in the inaugural (and only) season of the Israel Baseball League, a professional league comprised of six teams which played baseball in Israel during the summer of 2007. David was in charge of league operations and Eric, at 18, was one of the league’s youngest players. JNF, through its Project Baseball, partnered with the league in many ways including the development and improvement of the very few baseball fields in Israel. That JNF would be involved in such an unusual activity impressed Mark greatly and, during his first trip to Israel during the summer of 2007, Mark visited several JNF sponsored projects.
While the baseball league did not survive, Mark’s connection to JNF did. He has been a member of the Central New Jersey JNF Board since 2008 and became a member of Makor in 2009. Since his first Israel trip in 2007, Mark has visited Israel several more times. He was on the JNF’s President’s Council Mission in 2008, the Makor Mission in 2010 and served as JNF’s emissary at the dedication of the JNF financed baseball field in Yarkon Park in Tel Aviv during the Maccabiah Games in July, 2009. Each visit allowed Mark to more fully appreciate and understand the scope of JNF’s tremendous work in Israel.
