Jewish National Fund to Send Arizona Teens to Israel for Free, Establishes the Schwartz-Hammer Alexander Muss High School in Israel Impact Fellowship Program

Jewish National Fund (JNF) is proud to announce the Schwartz-Hammer Alexander Muss High School in Israel Impact Fellowship Program, a new program that will send Arizona teenagers to Israel on an experience of a lifetime – for free.

The fellowship, which includes everything from on-campus housing to field trip costs, was established in order to provide Arizona high school Jewish teens with the extraordinary opportunity to explore and discover their connection to the land, people, history and culture of Israel. Alexander Muss High School in Israel is an international college preparatory study abroad program for high school students that uses Israel as the classroom for an amazing experience filled with fun and memories. Through the generous support of the Schwartz-Hammer Foundation, five Arizona high school seniors will be selected to experience a magical six-week summer program in Israel and become Impact Fellows.

The Schwartz-Hammer High School in Israel Impact Fellowship was created by Sheila Schwartz, a Phoenix local with a heart of gold. A prominent leader in the Jewish Community, Schwartz has been involved with countless organizations across the state. She wanted to make an impact on the Valley’s Jewish community by bringing Arizona youth to Israel to strengthen their Jewish identity while developing a deep-rooted connection to Jewish life, to the Jewish people, and to Israel, so together with her daughter, Lesley Hammer, and Jewish National Fund she is now able to make this dream a reality through the AMHSI Impact Fund/Fellowship.

“I cannot express how excited we are to work with the Schwartz-Hammer Foundation to ensure the success of this program,” said Deb Rochford, JNF Desert States Executive Director. “To have the opportunity to send five Arizona high school seniors to take part in the Alexander Muss High School in Israel curriculum is a dream come true.”

AMHSI’s mission is to promote, build and strengthen life-long bonds between youth and Israel through study of the history and culture of Israel. The only non-denominational, pluralistic, 8-week, English language academic experience in Israel for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors, AMHSI instills in its students a lifelong sense of pride in their Jewish heritage by strengthening Jewish identity while developing deep-rooted connections to Jewish life, to the Jewish people, and to Israel. AMHSI has been an important contributor to the leadership and educational fabric of the North American Jewish community and boasts more than 22,000 alumni—many of whom are active leaders in their Jewish communities today.

Even years after attending AMHSI, alumni credit many of their personal, academic, and professional accomplishments to their AMHSI experience. From authors to rabbis, teachers to entrepreneurs, celebrities, executives, and community activists, AMHSI’s alumni are among the most successful.

“Alexander Muss High School in Israel is such a positive experience for everyone that students still reflect on it 20 years later,” said Hayley Magerman, JNF campaign executive and an AMHSI alum. “It’s a program filled with quality curriculum that provides high school students with a profound understanding of the history of Israel and the importance of their connection.”

All applications must be received by March 2, 2015.  APPLY HERE
