Jewish National Fund held its 10th Annual Breakfast on Wednesday, March 21 at Temple Beth Sholom (TBS). Rabbi Felipe Goodman of TBS was honored for his dedication to JNF and the land and people of Israel. The annual event drew a crowd of 260 people and included a keynote address by JNF Chief Executive Officer Russell F. Robinson.
JNF regional board president Bob Dubin and Sapphire Chair, Lara Stone presented Rabbi Goodman with a plaque in recognition of his contributions and support to JNF and Israel. “This honor is not just mine,” Rabbi Goodman said, addressing his congregation and guests, “it belongs to you as well. I am accepting this honor in your behalf. Next time, when you seek to make an impact in Israel, instead of calling me, put your money toward the cause and donate to JNF, because JNF is Israel.”
JNF CEO Russell F. Robinson echoed Rabbi Goodman’s sentiments and urged guests to become a part of a growing Israel.
“Israel is not the same as it was 50 years ago; it has developed into one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world,” he said. “Israel’s existence is essential to the rest of the world and it is important for us to know that Israel relys on our support..”
The event also welcomed Joan Davis as the newest member of the JNF Sapphire Society. Davis was presented with her Sapphire pin by best friend and fellow Sapphire Society member Sharry Solomon.
The Sapphire Society, JNF’s women’s major donor division, is directly involved with the development of Israel’s southern region, the Negev Desert. Currently, the Las Vegas Sapphire Society is taking on a naming opportunity with its own project: the construction of a new, state-of-the-art medical center in the Central Arava to replace a small, dilapidated clinic that currently serves the entire area.
