5th Annual Golf Tournament

On Sunday, November 8, 2009, the Las Vegas Region of Jewish National Fund held its 5th Annual Golf Tournament at the beautiful Siena Golf Club, enjoying a magnificent view of the mountains and perfect weather. But more than the weather, the players teed off for a cause: they were helping to alleviate the severe water crisis in Israel.

A terrific success, the day brought in necessary funds that will go to JNF’s ongoing work with water in Israel – building more essential reservoirs and desalinization plants and developing new ways of capturing recycled and rain water -- so necessary for the existence of thriving communities throughout Israel.

A 7:00 am breakfast gave way to 46 players taking to the greens, among them a foursome from the Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson Educational Campus. Serious competition ensued, resulting in the following top foursomes:

1st place: Marty Weinberg, Trent Loucks, Eric Cross, Matt Cimino
2nd place: Jack Davis, Howard Kaplan, Arthur Greenberg, Earl Jackobson
3rd place: Larry Monkarsh, Hayim Mizrachi, Josh Krygier, Wayne Krygier

The tournament, chaired by Sandra Mallin and co-chaired by Lara Stone and David Kruger, was followed by a luncheon that honored Mayor Oscar Goodman.

The crowd, that included additional guests who joined the luncheon, enjoyed the mayor’s repartee and jokes. Las Vegas Regional President Larry Monkarsh presented Mayor Goodman with a JNF Water Certificate Plaque, thanking him for his involvement with the local Jewish community. The mayor then awarded Ellis Landau with a “Closest to the Pin” prize -- a golf putter. Matt Cimino won a golf bag for the longest drive.

Lightheartedness aside, Monkarsh then updated everyone on JNF’s work, particularly about water.

For more than a decade, JNF has pioneered innovative solutions to stretch Israel’s water supply, leading to a 12% increase in the water economy. Now, the JNF Parsons Water Fund—a $100 million initiative to increase Israel’s supply of high-quality water by more than 440 billion gallons by 2020—will expand upon and accelerate JNF’s vital work.

Thank you to the tournament’s major sponsors: Answerman Tax Services, Inc., Nevada Association Services, Robert & Helen Feldman, LM Construction Co., Burger Grind Bar & Lounge, Stan and Sandra Mallin, Shelley Dubin, Phil and Blanche Meisel, Evergreen Recycling, Josh Pianko & Michael Novick of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Landau, A-1- Mechanical Inc., Siegel Suites Las Vegas and Mt. Charleston Lodge.

And many thanks to tee sponsors Mr. and Mrs. Robert Murdock, Las Vegas Cardiology, Las Vegas Radiology, Friedmutter Group, Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging, and Brown & Brown Insurance.
