JNF Looks to Engage Westchester Community

New Campaign Consultant will Raise Awareness

Contact: Neil Alpert JNF Campaign Consultant 914-907-3292 nalpert@jnf.org

October 5, 2006 -- New Rochelle,NY -- Looking to engage the Jewish communities in Riverdale and Rockland, Westchester and Fairfield Counties, Jewish National Fund (JNF) is pleased to welcome Neil Alpert as its campaign consultant for the region.

A salesman in the business world for 25 years, Alpert grew up in Rockland County. In 1974, after the Yom Kippur War, he spent the summer in Israel where “these Zionist feelings just hit me like a rock,” he said. “I saw a lot of pain and wanted to contribute to making it better. Israel just felt like home to me.”

Alpert finished college and then went to Israel on a scholarship from The Jewish Agency, to study Judaic Studies for a year. The year up, he made aliyah and served in the army for 18 months. But after finishing his service, with no home and no income, he went back to the States to earn some money with the goal of returning. His life took a different course however and Alpert settled in New Rochelle with his wife Amy, an occupational therapist, and their two children.

“My feelings as a Jew and a Zionist have always remained strong though,” he said, “and I’ve been looking for a way to get back to these roots and do something for the Jewish people in general and Israel in particular. JNF gives me that opportunity because of its focus on Israel and Israel is a vital part of my life; it’s the essence of who I am.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Neil and think he is uniquely qualified to cultivate a JNF presence in this region,” said Dr. Anita Jacobs, JNF Zone Director for the Greater New York Zone. “Howard Ingram, our Assistant Zone Director, and Amy Iles, our board president, have been developing our board here over the past year and they are a terrific team of people, dedicated and passionate about JNF’s work for Israel. Neil will help take it to the next level.”

JEWISH NATIONAL FUND (JNF) began in 1901 as a dream and vision to reestablish a homeland in Israel for Jewish people everywhere. Jews the world over collected coins in iconic JNF Blue Boxes, purchasing land and planting trees until ultimately, their dream of a Jewish homeland was a reality. JNF gives all generations of Jews a unique voice in building a prosperous future for the land of Israel and its people.

JNF embodies both heart and action; our work is varied in scope but singular in benefit. We strive to bring an enhanced quality of life to all of Israel’s residents, and translate these advancements to the world beyond. JNF is greening the desert with millions of trees, building thousands of parks, creating new communities and cities for generations of Israelis to call home, bolstering Israel’s water supply, helping develop innovative arid-agriculture techniques, and educating both young and old about the founding and importance of Israel and Zionism.

JNF is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and United Nations NGO, which continuously earns top ratings from charity overseers.
