Tzora Vineyards from Israel Partners with JNF

Contact: Jodi Bodner • JNF Director of Communications • 212-879-9305 ext. 221 • jbodner@jnf.org

September 21, 2009 -- New York, NY -- It’s not often that someone can be an oenophile and a philanthropist at the same time. But with the new Tzora Vineyards-Israeli Wine Direct/Jewish National Fund (JNF) affiliation, you can drink from the best of Israel’s vineyards and contribute to the betterment of the lives of the people of Sderot, who have been battered by years of continual rocket attacks from nearby Gaza.

For every bottle of Tzora’s 2006 Neve Ilan and 2006 Shoresh sold in the U.S., $1 will be donated to programming, activities, and equipment for the 21,000-square-foot indoor recreation center JNF built so the children of Sderot have a safe place to play.

Tzora Vineyards was selected because, in addition to being delicious, its wines uniquely connect people to the land and history of the Judean Hills in Israel; its vineyards dot the elevated mountainous region surrounding Jerusalem.

This winery, named after a spot mentioned in the Bible as a premium wine-producing area, is kosher. It is situated on Kibbutz Tzora and prides itself on single-vineyard wines.

“Tzora Vineyards is a pioneer in many aspects of the quality Israeli wine revolution and we are very pleased to establish this long-term partnership,” said JNF Executive Director of Finance Stephen Bach. “We expect this will greatly benefit our JNF community.”

Check your local wine stores for availability or order online at www.jnf.org/tzora or http://www.israeliwinedirect.com/, the official distributor of Tzora Vineyards in the U.S.

Said Richard Shaffer, founder of Israeli Wine Direct: “We’re excited to help further connect JNF members to the land of Israel through these great wines, wines we know they will be proud to pour and proud to share with others.”

Jewish National Fund (JNF) began in 1901 collecting coins in blue boxes to purchase land and return the Jewish people to their homeland. In over 109 years, JNF has evolved into a global environmental leader and become the central address for partnering with the land and people of Israel. JNF has planted 250 million trees; built over 1,000 parks and recreational areas; constructed security roads; educated students around the world about Israel; created new communities so that Jews from around the world would have a place to call home; discovered new means of growing plants under arid conditions, bringing green to the desert; and built over 200 reservoirs and water recycling centers, increasing Israel’s water supply by 10%. Today, JNF is supporting Israel’s newest generation of pioneers by bringing life to the Negev Desert, Israel’s last frontier.

A United Nations NGO, JNF sponsors international conferences on desertification, shares afforestation techniques, and funds research on arid land management. JNF is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and continuously earns top ratings from charity overseers. For more information on JNF, call 888-JNF-0099 or visit www.jnf.org
