JNF to Host Conversation with Ambassador Gideon Mier at UNF in Jacksonville

On November 14, 2013, Jewish National Fund (JNF) will host a Positively Israel event at University of North Florida with guest speaker Ambassador Gideon Meir. JNF, through their Positively Israel campaign, is promoting a positive dialogue about Israel to highlight the incredible work that Israel does every day to make the world a better place.

“Positively Israel is about showing the world how Israel working to improve the lives of all people,” said Daniel Klein, JNF Florida Area Director for Israel Advocacy and Education in Florida. “It has the power to connect people that were once at odds and who now can work together to continue to improve the world we live in and make for positive change for Israel on college campuses.”

This campus event is part of a 10-day national tour with Ambassador Gideon Meir, covering 15 campuses nationwide. Meir will be speaking to student groups, faculty, and student leaders to educate them on how they can actively take part in the Positively Israel movement, bringing a positive message of Israel to campuses that wouldn’t normally be exposed to the country’s achievements. The tour will focus on spreading awareness about the campaign and promoting an appreciation for all the innovations that Israel contributes to the world, including the invention of the Pill Cam, the development of the cell phone, and the invention of drip irrigation.

“Positively Israel is about changing the conversation,” said JNF CEO Russell F. Robinson. “It’s a focus on Israel’s accomplishments, whose benefits have a worldwide reach. It is necessary for an accurate depiction of the people of Israel, and Ambassador Gideon Meir is one of the best people to show that.”

Gideon Meir served as the Israeli ambassador to Italy from 2006-2011. He worked as Consul and Administration Officer for the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C. and was a member of the negotiating team that drafted Israel's peace treaty with Egypt. As Director of the Training Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his responsibilities included training of diplomats. In July 2011, Meir was appointed head of the Foreign Ministry's public affairs directorate and the Ministry’s Deputy Director General.

The event will take place at the University of North Florida on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 3:30 pm. For more information, please contact Daniel Klein at 800.211.1502 or

JEWISH NATIONAL FUND (JNF) began in 1901 as a dream and vision to reestablish a homeland in Israel for Jewish people everywhere. Jews the world over collected coins in iconic JNF Blue Boxes, purchasing land and planting trees until ultimately, their dream of a Jewish homeland was a reality. JNF gives all generations of Jews a unique voice in building a prosperous future for the land of Israel and its people.

JNF embodies both heart and action; our work is varied in scope but singular in benefit. We strive to bring an enhanced quality of life to all of Israel’s residents, and translate these advancements to the world beyond. JNF is greening the desert with millions of trees, building thousands of parks, creating new communities and cities for generations of Israelis to call home, bolstering Israel’s water supply, helping develop innovative arid-agriculture techniques, and educating both young and old about the founding and importance of Israel and Zionism.

JNF is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and United Nations NGO, which continuously earns top ratings from charity overseers.
