January 24, 2014 – New York, NY – Jewish National Fund (JNF) is thrilled to be able to now offer its Taglit-Birthright Israel: Shorashim-JNF Israel Adventure Trip to even more eligible participants.
The Taglit-Birthright Israel program has expanded eligibility for its free 10-day trips to Israel for Jewish young adults ages 18-26. Teenagers who went on an educational trip to Israel during high school were previously not eligible for Birthright trips, but can now participate!
“This is great news for the alumni of our partner Alexander Muss High School in Israel,” said Dr. Sol Lizerbram, Vice President of College Activism. “The best in Israel education and college prep, AMHSI is the premier accredited, pluralistic, international study abroad program for high schoolers, where the land of Israel becomes a living classroom. Shorashim is also the official trip provider for Alexander Muss alumni. We have about 6,000 alumni between the ages of 18-26. Now they can go back and even go with their AMHSI friends!”
“More than that,” said Leor Sinai, AMHSI’s executive director, “we’ve heard through the years that students have said they sometimes felt like they had to choose between Birthright and AMHSI. Now the need to choose has been eliminated – a student can attend both AMHSI and Birthright! It's a win-win for Israel and Zionist Education and Advocacy. This can double the Israel engagement, which will only help strengthen Jewish identity and community.”
“We're all beyond excited to continue with our adventures in Israel – together,” said Gabby Antonelli, a current AMHSI student from Chevy Chase, MD. “Being able to go on Birthright is a great way to stay connected in the years to come. The minute I get home I'll be counting down until the next time we can all be together in Israel!”
With Shorashim and JNF you experience the awesome adventure of Israel from the inside, through the eyes and hearts of Israeli peers. Travel for 10 days with Israeli friends and staff who share the beauty, excitement and complexities of their country with you.
“I attended the April 2010 Alexander Muss session, and ever since the day I left Israel I have dreamed of going back,” said Gabrielle Diener, from Columbia, MD. “Now, as a student at Towson University, I have seen so many of my peers go on Birthright, and I felt a bit jealous. While I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to attend the high school in Israel program, it just didn't seem fair that I couldn't go on Birthright. Yesterday, after a friend posted the news on Facebook, I screamed with excitement! I called my mom, my friends from Alexander Muss, and posted it as my Facebook status! I am so excited that Birthright has changed their eligibility requirements. I look forward to more friends being made, more camels being ridden, more falafels being devoured, and new amazing memories being made!"
Registration for this FREE spring or summer trip opens at 10AM EST on February 19, 2014.

JEWISH NATIONAL FUND (JNF) began in 1901 as a dream and vision to reestablish a homeland in Israel for Jewish people everywhere. Jews the world over collected coins in iconic JNF Blue Boxes, purchasing land and planting trees until ultimately, their dream of a Jewish homeland was a reality. JNF gives all generations of Jews a unique voice in building a prosperous future for the land of Israel and its people.
JNF embodies both heart and action; our work is varied in scope but singular in benefit. We strive to bring an enhanced quality of life to all of Israel’s residents, and translate these advancements to the world beyond. JNF is greening the desert with millions of trees, building thousands of parks, creating new communities and cities for generations of Israelis to call home, bolstering Israel’s water supply, helping develop innovative arid-agriculture techniques, and educating both young and old about the founding and importance of Israel and Zionism.
JNF is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and United Nations NGO, which continuously earns top ratings from charity overseers.
