New York, NY: February 9, 2016  Birthright Israel, Shorashim, the National Conference of Shomrim Societies, and Jewish National Fund (JNF) are excited to announce that registration is now open for the first ever “Law Enforcement Israel Adventure,” a free 10-day trip to Israel for Jewish-American law enforcement officers.

This program, departing from New York City on May 29 and returning on June 9, 2016, is designed to connect law enforcement officials to their Jewish roots and Israeli counterparts. Participants will discover an unbelievable place on this adventure that caters to law enforcement officials, complete with traveling with their Israeli peers for the entire experience. From awe-inspiring hikes and exploring legendary cities to connecting with and learning from the law enforcement community in Israel, police officers will have the remarkable opportunity to take an adventure that blends their professional passions with a journey full of self-discovery.

“This is a very important mission, and I am extremely pleased that the National Conference of Shomrim Societies (NCSS) can play an active role in it. Members of law enforcement applaud Birthright Israel for taking on this task so that younger officers nationwide will be able to visit Israel and gain a better understanding of its history, their cultural connection, and the existing conflicts, to hopefully one day be part of a solution,” Lawrence Wein, president of National Conference of Shomrim Societies (NCSS), an organization dedicated to joining Jews who work as police, fire, and public safety officers, said.

“Birthright Israel is an integral experience for any young, Jewish adult to have. With Birthright Israel Shorashim, they are able to be a part of this journey through a unique lens that allows Americans and Israelis to travel together for the full experience,” Michael Waitz, North American Director of Shorashim, said. “This particular trip takes this a step further by connecting Americans with their Israeli counterparts, as they connect professionally and personally on a life-changing adventure.”

The idea for this unique Birthright Israel trip was conceived by NCSS chaplain Rabbi Tzvi Berkowitz, of Howard Beach, N.Y. who worked with Birthright Israel and Shorashim to bring the idea to fruition, increasing the eligibility age requirements from 26 to 29 to allow a larger range of young adults to take part in this vital program.

“Now is the perfect opportunity for Jewish law enforcement personnel to experience the aura of Israel by joining with Birthright Israel for a 10-day fully subsidized trip to connect with their peers in Israel. It's an experience that will kindle an eternal spark of bonding with the birthplace of one’s heritage,” Berkowitz remarked.

When he first heard of the trip idea and the unique audience, Russell F. Robinson, JNF’s chief executive officer, immediately signed on: “Our nation’s first responders and public safety officers are dedicated selfless public servants who put their lives on the line each and every day. National Shomrim is to be commended for devising this opportunity so that Jewish police officers can interact with their Israeli “partners” and have enriched careers as both a Jew and as an officer.”

Register for this 10-day, free gift of Birthright Israel: Shorashim Law Enforcement Adventure with JNF at This trip is for participants who are eligible for Birthright Israel and ages 22-29. JEWISH NATIONAL FUND (JNF) began in 1901 as a dream and vision to reestablish a homeland in Israel for Jewish people everywhere. Jews the world over collected coins in iconic JNF Blue Boxes, purchasing land and planting trees until ultimately, their dream of a Jewish homeland was a reality. JNF gives all generations of Jews a unique voice in building a prosperous future for the land of Israel and its people.

JNF embodies both heart and action; our work is varied in scope but singular in benefit. We strive to bring an enhanced quality of life to all of Israel’s residents, and translate these advancements to the world beyond. JNF is greening the desert with millions of trees, building thousands of parks, creating new communities and cities for generations of Israelis to call home, bolstering Israel’s water supply, helping develop innovative arid-agriculture techniques, and educating both young and old about the founding and importance of Israel and Zionism.

JNF is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and United Nations NGO, which continuously earns top ratings from charity overseers.
