Jewish National Fund Joines #GivingTuesday™

Contact: Ariel Vered • JNF Communications Manager • 212.879.9305 ext. 227 • avered@jnf.org

November 26, 2012New York, NY – On Tuesday November 27, 2012, charities, families, businesses and individuals are coming together to transform the way people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. Jewish National Fund (JNF) is proud to be a partner in #GivingTuesday™. Your gift to JNF on #GivingTuesday™ will be matched by the generous contribution of the Gene and Marlene Epstein Humanitarian Fund.

“We have been drawn to Israel since our childhood and are always struck by the scope of JNF’s work,” said the Epsteins. “JNF is on the ground every day enhancing the quality of life of all of Israel’s residents and sharing its expertise with other countries, helping to make the world a better place. JNF’s critical work includes providing emergency relief during times of crisis; greening the desert with millions of trees; bolstering Israel’s water supply; and creating new communities in the Negev for generations of Israelis to call home. We want to help JNF do more and help more people get involved. It is our honor to match every JNF contribution on #GivingTuesday™.”

Held on the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday™ is a campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations. This is the first time this virtual event has been held.

It’s a simple idea. Find a way for your family, your community, or your company to join in acts of giving. Tell everyone you can about what you are doing and why it matters. Join a national celebration of our great tradition of generosity, and create new ways to give more, give better and give smarter.

Join in this grand new tradition and make your voice heard at jnf.org/givingtuesday.

#GivingTuesday™ is an initiative spearheaded by New York’s 92nd St Y. Partners include United Nations Foundation, JCPenny, Skype, Microsoft, Do Something, and The Salvation Army. More information can be found at givingtuesday.org.

JEWISH NATIONAL FUND (JNF) began in 1901 as a dream and vision to reestablish a homeland in Israel for Jewish people everywhere. Jews the world over collected coins in iconic JNF Blue Boxes, purchasing land and planting trees until ultimately, their dream of a Jewish homeland was a reality. JNF gives all generations of Jews a unique voice in building a prosperous future for the land of Israel and its people.

JNF embodies both heart and action; our work is varied in scope but singular in benefit. We strive to bring an enhanced quality of life to all of Israel’s residents, and translate these advancements to the world beyond. JNF is greening the desert with millions of trees, building thousands of parks, creating new communities and cities for generations of Israelis to call home, bolstering Israel’s water supply, helping develop innovative arid-agriculture techniques, and educating both young and old about the founding and importance of Israel and Zionism.

JNF is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and United Nations NGO, which continuously earns top ratings from charity overseers.
