JNF Announces Exciting Changes In Pursuit of Fundraising Goal

Contact: Ariel Vered • JNF Communications Manager • 212-879-9305 ext. 227 • avered@jnf.org

February 7, 2011 – New York, NY – Jewish National Fund (JNF) has announced some exciting changes in leadership as it focuses on reaching a fundraising goal of $100 million. On the lay side, Marc Kelman of Phoenix, AZ, will take over as National Vice President of Campaign, and on the professional side, Rick Krosnick of Deerfield, IL, will take on the new role of Chief Development Officer. The youngest team in JNF’s 109-year-old history, they are taking on the challenge of meeting the needs as the central address of the Jewish people for the land and people of Israel.

Kelman took over from immediate past VP of Campaign Charles S. Fax following JNF’s annual National Conference in October. In December, Kelman accompanied JNF CEO Russell Robinson on a 48-hour trip to the Carmel region in the wake of Israel’s worst fire to assess the damage and determine both short-term and long-term needs.

“Marc Kelman, who is leading us into our 2011 campaign, is one of the great young leaders and rising stars of Jewish National Fund,” said JNF President Stanley Chesley. “As President of the Arizona Region, Marc led the most successful JNF campaign in the nation. I look forward to the success Marc will bring our organization as Vice President of Campaign.”

Kelman is the Past President of the Western Zone, Past President of the JNF Arizona region, Past Vice President of the National Campaign and a 2007 recipient of the Tree of Life™ award along with his father Leo Kelman. As part of Makor, Kelman has traveled to Israel every year and studied JNF’s projects up close and personal.

“I love being involved in Israel. To me, there is no better organization to build a secure Jewish homeland than JNF,” said Kelman, who is the youngest person ever to be named National Vice President of Campaign. “Since I took over as Vice President of Campaign, we have seen a growing rise in donors. More people, especially young people are connecting with JNF through college and JNFuture.

He added: “I fell in love with the passion and spirit of JNF and its dedicated group of volunteers. Together with an enthusiastic and committed group of lay leaders and staff, my goal as VP of campaign is to enable JNF to reach unsurpassed goals.”

No stranger to JNF, Krosnick was hired as JNF’s Midwest Zone Director 12 years ago to oversee the campaign in 15 states. Several years ago he was put on the executive management committee as National Campaign Coordinator. Additionally, he has led one of JNF’s most successful annual missions – its President’s Mission for $10,000 annual givers.

“Rick is a consummate fundraiser and creative solicitor, planner and supervisor,” said JNF Chief Operating Officer Harold Cohen. “He is working closely with Russell Robinson, JNF’s Chief Executive Officer, and we are confident will help take us where we want to go.”

To achieve his goals, Krosnick is working closely with highly talented fundraising staff across the country to establish objectives and priorities for the campaign, developing concepts and ideas, and is traveling extensively throughout the country to engage donors and share the exciting JNF story.

"I believe deeply in Israel,” said Krosnick, “not only as a Jewish State but as a purpose for the Jewish people everywhere. I believe deep in my soul that it is vital to connect the people of Israel to Jews all over the world; that Israel informs our collective identity. It is what we share as a community. So for me, fundraising for JNF is easy because JNF is Israel.”

JEWISH NATIONAL FUND (JNF) began in 1901 as a dream and vision to reestablish a homeland in Israel for Jewish people everywhere. Jews the world over collected coins in iconic JNF Blue Boxes, purchasing land and planting trees until ultimately, their dream of a Jewish homeland was a reality. JNF gives all generations of Jews a unique voice in building a prosperous future for the land of Israel and its people.

JNF embodies both heart and action; our work is varied in scope but singular in benefit. We strive to bring an enhanced quality of life to all of Israel’s residents, and translate these advancements to the world beyond. JNF is greening the desert with millions of trees, building thousands of parks, creating new communities and cities for generations of Israelis to call home, bolstering Israel’s water supply, helping develop innovative arid-agriculture techniques, and educating both young and old about the founding and importance of Israel and Zionism.

JNF is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and United Nations NGO, which continuously earns top ratings from charity overseers.
