Join Jewish National Fund For An International Jerusalem Photo Challenge
In Honor of the 50th Anniversary of Jerusalem’s Reunification, JNF is Proudly Participating in the JerusaLENS Jerusalem Photo Challenge

February 15, 2017 (New York, NY) - Jewish National Fund (JNF-USA) is proud to announce its participation in the first-ever JerusaLens Jerusalem Photo Challenge in honor of the upcoming 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem. With a total of three prizes, valued up to $10,000, contestants are urged to submit their unique, awe-inspiring pictures of the holy city into the three available categories—Top Photographer, Top Photo, and Guru’s Top Pick. In addition to the prizes above, JNF is also sponsoring a Young Photographers category (ages 13-22) for photos of Jerusalem uploaded to Instagram, using the hashtag #Jerusalem50Photo.

The JerusaLens Jerusalem Photo Challenge is the brainchild of Alon Wald, the marketing manager and events coordinator for the Ammunition Hill National Memorial Site, a JNF-partner in Jerusalem. Ammunition Hill is the historical site of the intense battle for Jerusalem’s reunification and liberation of the Old City during the 1967 Six-Day War. “We decided that 50 years after my father and his fellow fighters gave Jerusalem to the Jewish people, we would symbolically offer Jerusalem to the whole world through photography,” says Wald, who decided to hold the photo contest in memory of his father, Rami Wald, who fell during the battle for the strategic hilltop. “Together with JNF and other organizations, we aim to set a new Guinness record with the number of photographs we collect over the course of our competition.”

The JerusaLENS Jerusalem Photo Challenge is underway and open to people from all countries and nationalities, with voting commencing on March 1, 2017. Each participant is limited to submitting four digital photos through the contest’s official website, and submissions will be judged by Wald and a panel of award-winning Israeli photographers. Participants will also be able to cast their own vote for other participants’ submissions through GuruShots, an interactive social platform that connects photo enthusiasts around the world. The 100 best selected photographs will be placed on exhibit at Ammunition Hill for public viewing.

May 24, 2017 will mark the 50th anniversary of Jerusalem’s reunification, and to celebrate this auspicious occasion, thousands of delegates from JNF’s 50th Anniversary of Jerusalem’s Reunification Mission will gather at Ammunition Hill for an exclusive national ceremony with top Israeli dignitaries, IDF soldiers, and other special guests.

JEWISH NATIONAL FUND (JNF) began in 1901 as a dream and vision to reestablish a homeland in Israel for Jewish people everywhere. Jews the world over collected coins in iconic JNF Blue Boxes, purchasing land and planting trees until ultimately, their dream of a Jewish homeland was a reality. JNF gives all generations of Jews a unique voice in building a prosperous future for the land of Israel and its people.

JNF embodies both heart and action; our work is varied in scope but singular in benefit. We strive to bring an enhanced quality of life to all of Israel’s residents, and translate these advancements to the world beyond. JNF is greening the desert with millions of trees, building thousands of parks, creating new communities and cities for generations of Israelis to call home, bolstering Israel’s water supply, helping develop innovative arid-agriculture techniques, and educating both young and old about the founding and importance of Israel and Zionism.

JNF is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and United Nations NGO, which continuously earns top ratings from charity overseers.
