November 16, 2010 – New York, NY -- Roni Flamer, co-founder of The OR Movement, a Jewish National Fund (JNF) partner organization, will receive the Prime Minister’s Prize for Initiative and Innovation from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, November 18 at the Technion in Haifa as part of the main Israeli event of Global Entrepreneurship Week.
The Prime Minister's Prize is being awarded in three categories: young people, women, and the periphery. Flamer is being recognized for his work in the periphery as a founding chair of the OR Movement, a JNF partner whose mission is to encourage settlement in the Galilee and Negev regions. Over the past seven years, The OR Movement and JNF, as part of the Blueprint Negev initiative to sustainably develop Israel's southern region for the next generation of Israelis, have greatly impacted the region and the people who live there.
"Roni Flamer is one of the greatest visionary idealists that I've ever met," said JNF CEO Russell Robinson. "JNF’s partnership with the OR Movement is built upon a shared vision for the future of Israel: a thriving, prosperous Negev, and in a short amount of time we have begun to change the face of the Negev—with energy, determination, and an entrepreneurial spirit. We look forward to all of the accomplishments yet to come. Thanks to Roni's vision and dedication, our next generation is in good hands."
The Prime Minister’s Prize is designed to encourage initiatives, innovative thinking, imagination and creativity in various population groups and to foster changes in the area of the environment, society, science, technology, and others.
“Israel is among the world leaders in initiatives thanks to its human capital,” said the Prime Minister in a statement he issued. ”We have many entrepreneurs who are active in our universities, high-tech business, and so on, and I welcome this activity. We need to be leaders.”
Working with JNF's Blueprint Negev campaign, The OR Movement is carrying out its mission of developing and populating the Negev and Galilee, building new communities and expanding existing communities. The JNF/OR Information and Relocation Center offers information regarding communities, regional and municipal authorities, employment, culture, education and delineates the benefits of moving to the Negev and Galilee regions. More than 25,000 families have already made new homes in these peripheries.
Together with JNF, the OR Movement will be hosting its annual gala, A Night of Broadway Hits, on December 8 at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City. To purchase tickets, visit www.ormovement.org/gala.

JEWISH NATIONAL FUND (JNF) began in 1901 as a dream and vision to reestablish a homeland in Israel for Jewish people everywhere. Jews the world over collected coins in iconic JNF Blue Boxes, purchasing land and planting trees until ultimately, their dream of a Jewish homeland was a reality. JNF gives all generations of Jews a unique voice in building a prosperous future for the land of Israel and its people.
JNF embodies both heart and action; our work is varied in scope but singular in benefit. We strive to bring an enhanced quality of life to all of Israel’s residents, and translate these advancements to the world beyond. JNF is greening the desert with millions of trees, building thousands of parks, creating new communities and cities for generations of Israelis to call home, bolstering Israel’s water supply, helping develop innovative arid-agriculture techniques, and educating both young and old about the founding and importance of Israel and Zionism.
JNF is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and United Nations NGO, which continuously earns top ratings from charity overseers.
