May 6, 2011 – New York, NY – The Turkish Cultural Center of New York made a generous donation to Jewish National Fund’s (JNF) Operation Carmel Renewal campaign to rehabilitate the Carmel Forest following the tragic December fire.
Mehmet Kilic, Executive Director and Vice President of Turkish Cultural Center NY, presented JNF CEO Russell Robinson a check for $10,000 to go towards rehabilitation efforts.
Said Russell Robinson, “On behalf of the Jewish National Fund family, I want to thank you for your outstanding commitment to JNF in response to the Carmel Forest Fires. Your gift will help bring the black from the fires to green again.”
“There are strong, centuries-old ties of friendship between Turks and Israelis. Helping Hands Relief Foundation, in collaboration with the Turkish Cultural Center New York, had a fundraising for the victims of the brushfires,” said Kilic. “We are very happy that Turkey was able to contribute to the relief efforts and send two firefighting aircrafts to help control the huge brushfire in northern Israel in December. Turkey's aircraft were among the first to arrive and we believe that the assistance from Turkish aircraft was an opening door to better ties between the two countries.”
The ceremony was attended by New York State Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz, Nezvat Yilmaz, President of Helping Hands Relief Foundation, and Israel Deputy Consul General in New York Shlomi Kofman.
A plaque will be dedicated in recognition of Turkish Cultural Center of New York’s contribution in Israel.

JEWISH NATIONAL FUND (JNF) began in 1901 as a dream and vision to reestablish a homeland in Israel for Jewish people everywhere. Jews the world over collected coins in iconic JNF Blue Boxes, purchasing land and planting trees until ultimately, their dream of a Jewish homeland was a reality. JNF gives all generations of Jews a unique voice in building a prosperous future for the land of Israel and its people.
JNF embodies both heart and action; our work is varied in scope but singular in benefit. We strive to bring an enhanced quality of life to all of Israel’s residents, and translate these advancements to the world beyond. JNF is greening the desert with millions of trees, building thousands of parks, creating new communities and cities for generations of Israelis to call home, bolstering Israel’s water supply, helping develop innovative arid-agriculture techniques, and educating both young and old about the founding and importance of Israel and Zionism.
JNF is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and United Nations NGO, which continuously earns top ratings from charity overseers.
