Israel Fires

For over six days our beloved homeland was engulfed in devastating fires, destroying thousands of acres of forests and forcing hundreds of families to abandon their homes.

  • Estimated 10,000 acres of forests burned by fires set by arsonists.
  • Fires threatened or destroyed thousands of homes in Haifa, the surrounding Jerusalem area, and other areas throughout the country.
  • In Haifa alone, 700 homes damaged; 37 destroyed; 400 uninhabitable; 70,000 residents evacuated.
  • More than 2,500 men and women deployed on the frontlines to fight more than 630 arson blazes.
  • Over 569 homes burned down throughout Israel.
  • 480 water tanker flights were deployed by neighboring countries to help extinguish fires from above.
  • 137 people suffered fire-related injuries.

As caretaker of the land of Israel, Jewish National Fund is on the ground today and every day building a stronger, healthier, more secure Israel. In cooperation with Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael (KKL) and JNF partner organizations, first-responders, and firefighting battalions, JNF is at the frontline in the battle to address the immediate needs of replenishing Israel’s fire-fighting capabilities, including critically needed state-of-the-art equipment to combat future blazes, as well as embarking on an intensive multi-year reforestation campaign to undo the heavy losses sustained.

Jewish National Fund is raising money for:

  • Intensive reforestation of areas destroyed by fires.
  • 550 critically needed fire-fighting trucks and new equipment.
  • Working with our many partners in Israel, like Nefesh B’Nefesh, Makom, Western Galilee Now, HaShomer HaChadash, and Green Horizons to help those impacted by the fires so that they can rebuild.

There’s no other Zionist organization that knows how to build and protect Israel like JNF does.

To date, JNF has:

  • Planted over 250 million trees across Israel.
  • Protected those forests and nearby communities in cooperation with foresters and firefighters who work tirelessly around the clock.
  • Funded 140 new fire trucks.
  • Funded new state-of-the-art firefighting equipment.
  • Built dozens of new fire stations across the country.
  • Developed guidelines for reforestation efforts that have been shared with countries around the world.

Through it all, JNF is there. JNF is Israel and Israel is JNF. Every day, JNF projects improve and brighten the lives of Israelis from all walks of life, from building accessible nature trails and parks to creating new opportunities and incentives in the Galilee and Negev for families to come lay roots. JNF is building a country we can all be proud of.

Together we will rebuild and make our homeland flourish.
