Ellen Bernstein
Founder of Shomrei Adamah
Referred to as the “birth-mother” of the Jewish environmental movement, Ellen Bernstein is founder of Shomrei Adamah, Keepers of the Earth, the first national Jewish environmental organization. She is author of “The Splendor of Creation: A Biblical Ecology”, “Ecology & the Jewish Spirit” and several other books and articles on Judaism and ecology. She is currently developing a program on Judaism and Ecology at Hebrew College in Newton, MA and teaches a course on the place of nature in the Bible. She writes, speaks and consults widely on the topic of Judaism and ecology.
