Dr. Laura S. Schor

Professor of History at Hunter College

LauraDr. Laura S. Schor is Professor of History at Hunter College. She was the founding Dean of the CUNY Honors College and also served for nine years as Provost of Hunter College. Earlier in her career Dr. Schor was the Director of Women’s Studies at the University of Cincinnati. She was a pioneer in developing the field of women’s history; currently she teaches modern French history and modern European Jewish history. She is the author of four books; numerous research articles, book reviews, and short essays; two documentary videos; and an exhibition catalogue. She has presented papers at more than 50 conferences in the U.S. and Europe.

Leaving the academy, Dr. Schor spent two years as the National Executive Director of the largest women’s organization in the United States, Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America.

Her most recent book, published this year, is a biography of Betty de Rothschild; she is currently working on a history of the Evelina de Rothschild School in Jerusalem, as well as teaching a course on the Dreyfus Affair.
