Youth Education Programs in Israel

Green Horizons

For thirty years, Green Horizons (Hugey Sayarut) has provided non-formal instructive programming for 2,500 children in more than 32 cities, towns, and communities – from Kiryat Shmona to Be’er Sheva. Green Horizon’s focus is on helping students acquire self confidence, independence, curiosity, and a better understanding of their surroundings.

Chaired by Maj. Gen. Uzi Dayan, the program facilitates individual growth by nurturing responsibility, friendship and leadership. Special activities include integrating new immigrants into Israeli society, becoming involved in environmental issues, and providing activities for at-risk youth. Students from 5th - 12th grade meet in groups of 10-15 people on a weekly basis. Once a month, they have weekend trips, and four times a year, they go on extended trips for 4-5 days led by professional guides. Among the participants are immigrant youth from countries as far away as Russia, Ethiopia, and Argentina.

Donors can fund a new chapter or a scholarship for one or more child.

Summer Camps

JNF has always supported areas under security threats, building safe roads and developing recreational projects. Our hallmark is the goal of meeting needs generated by events as they occur. In order to do so, JNF has created summer camps at sites such as Nes Harim and Hod Hasharon that are out of the way of danger and effectively respond to the needs of the individuals who live with a sense of threat.

The camps provide a wide variety of activities that are both fun and educational. They are a unique way to help the children put aside their tensions and fears. They also help parents cope with the situation by giving them the peace of mind of knowing their children are spending their days in a safe and fun place.
