Bio

Ida Raye Chernin was born in Savannah, GA to faithful “Blue Box” parents, and was married for more than 50 years to the late Marshall Chernin. Her fashion acumen is well-known and she was sought after during her career as a comparative shopper at Loehmann’s. Ida Raye first visited Israel in 1973 and has made numerous trips since. She has been an active member and long-time advocate in the Jewish community, and since moving to Tampa in 1999, has helped to build Congregation Rodeph Sholom and served as Co-President of the synagogue’s Sisterhood. Ida Raye was previously member of the Tampa Federation’s leadership council and on the board of the Florida Holocaust Museum. A member of JNF’s President’s Society and Century Council, Ida Raye is also active in the Sapphire Society. She has three children and seven grandchildren.
