Bio
Daniel Shapiro was the U.S. ambassador to Israel under President Barack Obama’s administration from July 2011 to January 2017, when he participated in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations as well as high-level talks on the Iran nuclear deal and American military aid to Israel. Previously, he was senior director for the Middle East and North Africa at the National Security Council, where he led U.S. diplomatic efforts in Syria and Lebanon. He was a longtime legislative staffer on Capitol Hill and is currently a distinguished visiting fellow at Tel Aviv University’s Institute for National Security Studies.
