THE ARAVA Stands with Israel: Israel Resilience Campaign Activity
· The Arava has taken in 2,200 evacuees for a total population increase of 45% in the region.
· Doing everything possible to absorb the new, displaced residents into the community and making them feel at home by providing food, shelter, education, basic necessities
· Established an operations center that takes in all of the needs from the region and ensures they are met. Every town/Moshav has its own logistics center to ensure smooth and strategic operations.
· There are now 900 children in the region which is necessitating the creation of an entire new school system
THE ARAVA: Everyday Work
Arava Emergency Response Center
The Central Arava Emergency Response Center (ERC) serves as a central command station for the area, housing both police and fire personnel, gathering all essential emergency units, and allowing a more coordinated, efficient, prompt and functional response to any urgent event or crisis. The facility brings together volunteers and professionals to protect, guard, and save lives in this remote region, providing them with the tools, equipment, and knowledge.
Funding Opportunities
ELECTROCARDIOGRAM MACHINES: $1,800
This critical, life-saving device is needed for the region’s ambulances. Given the region’s extended territory, it is vital to have electrocardiogram devices available at the scene of an emergency.
DISPLAY SYSTEM: $5,000
Essential screens and computers that comprises the region’s Command and Control computerized system, allowing operators to monitor cameras throughout the region simultaneously to help save lives during search, rescue, security, and life-saving missions.
Arava Medical Center
Located in the heart of the Central Arava desert, this facility provides medical services to the 8,000 people living in the most isolated and remote region in Israel, as well as thousands of tourists and visitors. Due to the regions harsh climate and challenging topography, the medical teams must be prepared to handle emergencies with the proper equipment given the long distances to the closest urban center.

AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILATOR: $1,800
This device is one of the most important tools in saving the live of someone experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. They will be located strategically throughout public buildings in the region.
PORTABLE ULTRASOUND BUTTERFLY DEVICE: $2,500
This portable device will be assigned to the region’s two general physicians to allow fast and potentially life-saving diagnosis.
SP PULSE OXIMETERS: $3,600
Six oxygen saturation devices are needed to determine the oxygen saturation levels of patients that otherwise seem ok, to determine the emergency level and whether they need to travel by helicopter or ambulance to Soroka Hospital, 80 miles away
24/7 MEDICAL SHIFT: $5,000
Cover the costs of a shift on the 24/7 medical call center, enabling medical support even at times that there typically is no medical service available.
Performance Arts Education in the Arava
As part of its effort to improve the quality of life in the Southern Arava, Jewish National Fund-USA is focusing on developing educational and cultural programs that meet the needs of local families, including the development of a STEAM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math). As part of this initiative, a new music program is transforming the Southern Arava’s students, enabling music education to become a fully integrated element of the education system in the region and offering access to the musical arts to all.
