IsraelCast Episode 217

Even before the October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attacks exacerbated life for Jewish students and professors, universities were already hostile to anything related to Israel. Six months prior, when Dr. Ronen Shoval, head of the Israeli Argaman Institute, was teaching at Princeton University, he required a police escort for a lecture he was giving at Hillel due to threats from protesters. Host Steven Shalowitz sits down with Dr. Shoval to discuss fighting bias at an American Ivy League University, the broader issues with the current ideology of colleges in America, and his new book, “Holiness and Society,” on political lessons learned from the Torah.
Dr. Ronen Shoval is the Dean of Tikvah Fund Israel, and Founder & Head of the Argaman Institute for Advanced Studies in Jerusalem, Israel. He is the author of “Holiness and Society: A Socio-Political Exploration of the Mosaic Tradition.” Dr. Shoval is also the Founder and former CEO of the Im Tirtzu movement, which works to strengthen and promote Zionist values and the renewal of pro-Israel discourse, thought, and ideology in Israeli society. He has taught political science at Princeton and Bar Ilan, and his research has been published in academic and popular journals.
