The tribute will honor MLK in addition to several prominent black leaders in New York City

New York, NY., February 25, 2021 — In honor of Black History Month, Jewish National Fund-USA (JNF-USA) in conjunction with the Consulate General of Israel in New York and the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York will cohost a virtual tribute to the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on February 28 at 5:00 pm ET.

The event will also honor New York State Assembly Member Hon. Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn; First Deputy Commissioner and Chief Equity Officer, NYC Department of Health Dr. Torian Easterling; and political anchor for Spectrum News NY1 Errol Lewis.

The tribute will also feature remarks by Hon. Israel Nitzan, the Acting Consul General of Israel in New York.

Jewish National Fund-USA CEO Russell Robinson said: “JNF-USA is proud to partner with the Israeli Consulate and recognize the extraordinary work Dr. King accomplished as he sought to bring people together and celebrate humanities common values.”

Acting Consul General Israel Nitzan said: “The State of Israel joins America in acknowledging Dr. King's immeasurable contribution to the civil rights movement and to the overall betterment of humanity.  His voice continues to be heard, from generation to generation, and his teachings remain as relevant as ever.”

Executive Vice President and CEO of JCRC-NY Michael Miller says: “As the 2021 Black History Month draws to a close, we invoke the memory and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who, as the quintessential civil rights leader and inspirational pastor that he was, embraced the Jewish community along with the causes of a strong and secure Israel and freedom for Soviet Jewry. Our three honorees embody that spirit of Dr. King and the partnership he exemplified with members of our faith.”

The annual event has previously recognized and celebrated contributions made by Gloria Gaynor, Dari Alexander and A’mare Stoudemire.

JNF-USA has long celebrated MLK's and Coretta Scott King’s legacy. As a tribute to MLK’s wife and her message of peace and equality, a section of the Biriya Forest in Israel’s north which was destroyed by the Hezbollah rockets in 2006 was replanted by JNF as the Coretta Scott King Forest which is in addition to a forest that was planted in Israel in memory of her husband.
