In a sometimes volatile stock market, Jewish National Fund’s Planned Giving Department can help you with retirement ideas that simultaneously support the land and people of Israel. We offer many income-producing gifts that can supplement existing retirement plans, such as IRAs and 401(k)s.
One option is a Jewish National Fund Charitable Retirement Income Annuity (CRIA), a charitable gift annuity that allows donors to make a partially tax-deductible gift today and defer receiving income until needed. This flexibility makes a Jewish National Fund CRIA a valuable part of your retirement strategy.
Let’s look at an example:
Lauren is 62 years old and does not plan to retire soon but wants to understand her options. Even with her company’s retirement plans and other savings vehicles, she worries about outliving her money. She has an extra $25,000 to save for retirement and wants to optimize it and support her values.
We showed Lauren how to customize a CRIA to suit her needs. She chose to contribute to the CRIA, where the income payments would not start for a minimum of three years when she turns 65. She plans to defer her income until she is 73, but can begin her CRIA at any time after her initial start date at age 65.
By doing this, Lauren will guarantee herself a minimum annuity rate of 6.3% on the money she contributes, and if she defers her annuity income until she is 73 she will receive a rate of 9.9%.
Even though Lauren is deferring her annuity income, she will still receive her tax deduction this year. This allows her to save taxes while her earning power is at its highest, and the tax savings are most valuable. Lauren is making a difference for Israel and by virtue of her $25,000 gift, she will become a member of JNF’s prestigious Negev Society.
