TENAFLY, N.J., May 8, 2025 — Jewish National Fund-USA hosted its annual United for Israel brunch on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Temple Sinai of Bergen County in Tenafly, drawing 150 philanthropists who are committed to rebuilding communities in Israel’s North and South.
Chaired by Sheryl Sarnak, the event’s timely theme was Navigating Antisemitism & Championing Israel Advocacy, and featured keynote speaker Shahar Azani, a veteran Israeli diplomat and former Executive Director for StandWithUs in New York. Azani also previously held the title of Senior Vice President at Jewish Broadcasting Service and had served at Israel’s Foreign Ministry for over 16 years, focusing on international affairs, media affairs, and public diplomacy. Azani frequently contributes to various media outlets focusing on Israel, Jewish issues, and the Middle East.

“As we gather here, where IDF hero Idan Alexander grew up, we remember him and all of our brothers and sisters held by Hamas terrorists in Gaza and will continue to fight for them until they’re back home,” said Azani. “We are united as one, and Jewish National Fund-USA is an integral part of Israel’s pain and joy. The organization’s shelters in the south saw some of the horrendous atrocities of October 7, as well as some of the most heroic acts. Now, Jewish National Fund-USA volunteers are helping to rebuild Israel and support its people, and together we shall celebrate in all of Israel’s success and achievements to be. Am Yisrael Chai.”
The event also featured a special performance by the Solomon Schechter Day School Bergen Choir and honored the memory of three philanthropic powerhouses who helped Jewish National Fund-USA establish a presence in the Northern New Jersey region.

“Gerry Rosen, Bob Levine, and Chuck Shain were pioneers—not only in their generosity but in their vision,” said Jewish National Fund-USA Director, Northern New Jersey and Rockland County, Rachel Kahn. “Long before it was common to speak about building up the Negev or strengthening the Galilee, they saw what was possible. They recognized that Jewish National Fund-USA’s mission wasn’t just a cause to support, but a calling to live by. It is because of the foundation they laid that I stand before you today, proud to lead a region that raises millions of dollars a year for the land and people of Israel. Thanks to them, Jewish National Fund-USA is not just a name in our community; it is a movement. It represents lives changed, millions of dollars raised, and perhaps most importantly, futures secured.”
