What better way to ring in the Jewish New Year than learning how to make a delicious homecooked meal that your friends and family will love?! Join cooking coach Debbie Kornberg and special guest chef Lior Lev Sercarz for a live virtual cooking class where you will learn how to prepare two crowd-pleasing Rosh Hashanah side dishes inspired by family traditions with a modern flare. Shopping list and recipes are provided in advance so that you can be prepared to cook along with Debbie and Chef Lior in your own kitchen.
Chef Lior, the Co-Founder and Chief Culinary Officer of the Galilee Culinary Institute (GCI) by JNF-USA, will also provide an update on GCI, the one-of-a-kind culinary institution. Located in the heart of Israel’s northern Galilee region where fertile lands, mountains, and rivers create an unparalleled location for a thriving agricultural sector, GCI by JNF-USA is expected to transform the Galilee into a thriving culinary hub.
On the menu is an Ashke-Phardi Rosh Hashanah Salad, a beautiful blending of Debbie's Ashkenazi upbringing and flavors and traditions of Sephardic/Mizrahi cooking. Our second dish is Silan Roasted Carrots, a simple yet elegant plate directly from Chef Lior's kitchen.

Debbie Kornberg’s enthusiasm for spices began at an early age in her grandmother’s kitchen. She owns and operates her own spice company, SPICE + LEAF. As a master teacher with more than 25 years of experience, Debbie teaches “Spice It Up with Deb: A Live Cooking Experience” workshops and is a regular contributor on Fox 5 San Diego Morning News. She is currently serving as President of JNF San Diego and serves on the Go North East Task Force for the Galilee Culinary Institute by JNF and the Beit Asher Food Innovation and Technology Center.

Lior Lev Sercarz is the chef, spice blender, and owner of La Boîte, a biscuits and spice shop in New York City. Sercarz and La Boîte have been featured in The New York Times, Vogue, In Style Magazine, Every Day with Rachel Ray, Food & Wine Magazine, and the SAVEUR 100. Since the start of his career, he has worked closely with chefs from around the world. In 2012, he produced a cookbook entitled, The Art of Blending, and his second book, The Spice Companion, was published in 2016.
